Getting into the whole printing industry and learning more about the production has been a whole new world for me. I love the aesthetics behind the purity of the process and how something as simple as a piece of paper can make or break your design. If you don’t have the right type of paper for your specific project, it could totally go awry. That’s why it is important you know your printer and the variety of paper samples to choose from.
My class recently had the opportunity to visit a local print shop here in Chattanooga, Blair Digital. Although its a small shop, the quality and personality of the work done there is nothing less than amazing. The owner was able to talk us through their specific process and we got to view many different types of print. We also met the “cutter.” Now when I say that, I mean cutting paper of course. He acted like it was the easiest job in the world. I, personally, would have been scared to death.
After the field trip the class had lunch at GreenLife. One of my favorite places to eat, so needless to say, I was excited. It was the perfect afternoon while we sat outside in the sunshine with our delicious food, and enjoying each other’s company outside of the classroom. The day was a success. =)
